Even tried 3 Luneshine purples and it won't grind. Level doesn't seem to matter with white, green or blue grinds. Not sure why it would matter for purple. to grind legendary you need 2 legendary 1 purple the purple weapon you use will become the new legendary that the recipe. Get two Thingies from Iwarja, get a purple item and moonstone grind. The level of the gun will be the average levels of the guns rounded DOWN and the purple gun will determine the TYPE of gun.

luneshine weapon could only be green or higher due to that moonstone will guranteed a higher quality for every grind. The only tip I could give you is save your game, and grind. If you don't get a luneshine, altf4 and repeat until you do unless you're using a Mac. Luneshine hyperion beam weapons are OP. #2.
